Dead Island 2 launched its first trailer back in 2014, announcing that the sequel to the popular zombie game Dead Island that released back in 2011. There's been a few other titles linked to the Dead Island franchise, such as Dead Island: Riptide, though a mainline sequel for the game is yet to be released. The game received a mixed response from critics, citing gameplay bugs and technical issues as being rife within the game, however it still performed well where sales are concerned, having sold over 5 million copies.
The zombie genre of games was incredibly popular back in the early 2010s, with titles like Call of Duty Zombies, Left 4 Dead 2 and The Walking Dead giving players varied experiences of an infectious apocalypse. However, the popularity of unique zombie games still seems to be high, as proven by the high sales figures of Dying Light 2. As the Dying Light series offers a similar open single player experience to the original Dead Island, many are wondering where the announced sequel to that game is.
Dead Island 2 Leak Says Game is Coming This Year
Apart from the occasional confirmation by publisher Deep Silver that the game is still in the works, news has been sparse on Dead Island 2 since 2014. The game has been through multiple developers, though now it seems that the game may be on track for a release, as recent news has stated that Dead Island 2's development is going well. Embracer Group, the company currently in charge of Deep SIlver, recently held an equity meeting, where the company was asked on the status of the game. Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors said "“I can’t talk about Dead Island 2 because it’s not announced as such from the publisher."
