Despite having plenty of movie projects already, Sony and Sega have announced even more for Space Channel 5, Comix Zone, and Days Gone.
Video game movies have certainly stepped up in recent years, at least in terms of popularity and profitability. This year saw the release of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Uncharted in cinemas and both have been major money makers for Sega and Sony.
With them being currently the ninth and tenth highest grossing movies of the year, respectively, their box office success has only encouraged both companies to green-light even more game-to-movie adaptations, regardless of whether they make sense or not.
For Sega’s part, it has announced adaptations of rhythm action game Space Channel 5 and scrolling beat ‘em up Comix Zone. While not directly confirmed, both are likely to be live action since they’re being produced by Picture Start, the same studio behind the live action Borderlands movie.
As a reminder, Sega has announced multiple movie projects in the past. We’re also meant to be getting movies for Yakuza, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets Of Rage, Virtua Fighter, Crazy Taxi, Altered Beast, and even another House Of The Dead.
Oh, and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 of course. So far, it’s the only one that we know will definitely come out, as it has a release date of December 20, 2024.
Synopses for the Space Channel 5 and Comix Zone movies have been shared and it sounds like both projects are taking some major liberties with their source material.
The former is simply titled Channel 5 and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, ‘will tell the story of a hapless fast food worker who is recruited by a freedom reporter from the future to save the world from aliens using the one thing that unites all people on the planet:
