New set photos from The Last of Us reveal how the show is at least somewhat directly adapting the game. The upcoming HBO show is based on Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic action-adventure game of the same name. The Last of Us game released in 2013 and not only sold out over 17 million copies by 2018, but it also received unanimous praise from critics and two prestigious year-end game awards. The game's financial performance prompted director Sam Raimi to tap it for a movie adaptation. However, those plans did not work out, and HBO ultimately leaped in and ordered The Last of Us TV show to series.
