Remember Mighty Doom, the 2D endless runner based on the Doom series? Well, it’s preparing to shut its servers down soon. Developed by Alpha Dog Games and published by Bethesda Softworks, the game was soft-launched in April 2021 and released worldwide in March 2023.

So, why is it pulling the plug so quickly? Keep reading to find out. The game is calling it quits on August 7th, 2024. The decision comes following the shutdown of operations of Alpha Dog Games, the developer of the game.

It seems like the shutdown of Mighty Doom is part of a larger picture of layoffs. Along with Alpha Dog, other game studios like Arkane Austin, Roundhouse Games and Tango Gameworks are also shutting down.

The details of the layoffs are still a bit murky. However, it’s clear that the gaming industry is also taking a hit with all the job cuts.

Despite all of this, Microsoft hasn’t delivered an official statement yet about Mighty Doom’s shutdown. Maybe it’s a strategic move to shuffle resources around or to clear the way for big hits down the road.
