Former Bungie CTO Luis Villegas is Now PlayStation’s Head of Technology, Creative and Services

Bungie‘s chief technology officer, Luis Villegas, has left the studio, taking on a new role as head of technology, creative and services at PlayStation. Villegas has worked with Bungie for 14 years, and had taken up the role of the studio’s CTO back in 2020. Villegas made the announcement on LinkedIn, referring to his new role as “PlayStation’s CTO for the content vertical”.

“I am super excited to announce that I have taken a role at PlayStation as the Head of Technology, Creative, and Services,” wrote Villegas on LinkedIn. “In my new role I will be PlayStation’s CTO for the content vertical, and will support the amazing teams that make PlayStation games best in class.”

“I feel incredibly lucky because as part of my new role I get to still work closely with my Bungie family,” he continued. “I wanted to thank all my Bungie friends and the leadership for supporting me as I embark in a new adventure and to the great people at PlayStation for the warm welcome over the last few weeks.”

Villegas has had a prolific career in his time with Bungie, having worked on several Halo games that were developed at the studio. Villegas has also worked on other projects during his time with EA in the late 2000s, before eventually making his way back to Bungie.

Bungie itself is currently gearing up for the release of the next Destiny 2 expansion, The Final Shape. The studio might be in trouble, however, as rumours from earlier this year indicate that the expansion under-performing could potentially lead to more layoffs.
