Suda51 would ‘love to release Killer7 for modern consoles’

Grasshopper Manufacture founder and CEO Goichi Suda (aka Suda51) has said he’d “love” to release Killer7 for modern consoles.

Originally released for the GameCube and PS2 in 2005, the stylish, violent action game centres on Harman Smith, a wheelchair-bound assassin with seven split personalities which he can make real.

The game was directed by Suda, who worked on the project with Shinji Mikami and Hiroyuki Kobayashi, and published by Capcom.

A PC version of the game was released in 2018, and in a new interview Suda told VGC he hasn’t given up hope of Capcom approving an updated console version.

“For Killer7, Capcom only okayed the PC version port,” he said. “We would love to release it on current consoles as well but we would need Capcom’s permission to do that. I really hope to get it done someday.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Suda discussed Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, which will be released later this year.

“It’s a simple remaster; nothing big added to the original game,” he said. “One of the reasons we decided to release it was to help keep the both the game and more generally the whole GhM catalogue alive, to make sure people could still play it.

“Of course we’ve added a few extra things to it, but we mainly wanted to keep the game playable for current-generation players, and we want to keep doing this with more of our back catalogue, too.”
