A new game is in the works from Wolcen Studio. Codenamed Project Pantheon, it is an “ExtrAction RPG” that will be a free-to-play live service game set in an afterlife where Death itself asks you for help to restore order to reality.
That's just the beginning. It's set in a post-apocalyptic dark fantasy universe inspired by tales and myths. At its foundation is a reinterpretation of Nordic mythology, The Realm of Fate. Project Pantheon promises a range of diverse maps, PvPvE combat, and lots of loot to take some risks to extract. Use your hidden fortress to build and upgrade a base, experiment with layouts, gear, and other build options to fine tune your strategies. Take those risks seriously, because if you’re not successful, you might permanently lose your gear.
Wolcen promises that players will impact the world–including in development. The economy will be player-driven, with an open market that will let players trade with each other.
The announcement came along with a teaser trailer and the first closed alpha test is very soon. For Europeans, the test will run January 25-26th. North American players can jump in on February 1st and 2nd. The test will feature an early build of Wolcen’s new flagship title. They emphasize early since it is kind of a technical test and a way for the devs to see how stable their backend and servers are. This will then help them with future test planning.
Game Director Andrei Chirculete describes their game as:
“Project Pantheon is what would happen if Diablo and Escape From Tarkov had a baby–a fusion of different, exciting gameplays. We are eager to see how our players react!”
The announcement follows the studio teasing something for a while, following an announcement last spring that its game, Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem, would end development and shut down multiplayer in September. At the time, there was no word on what the future might hold, but late last year, we started getting drips of a tease happening. The new game has been
