‘s next movie is allegedly set to be his last, and while fans continue to anxiously wait for news on it, the legendary director says he’s in no hurry to get to work.
Speaking to an audience at the Sundance Film Festival this week while in a conversation with film critic Elvis Mitchell (via Variety), Tarantino was asked about his next movie, and said that while he continues to write, he’s also been content being a dad to his children now.
“I’m in no hurry to actually jump into production,” Tarantino said. “I’ve been doing that for 30 years. Next month my son turns 5, and I have a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. When I’m in America, I’m writing. When I’m in Israel? I’m an abba, which means father.”
Tarantino went on to mention that, as far as filming a movie goes, he’d prefer to wait until his children are old enough to remember what it was like to be on set and be with his father at the time.
“The idea of jumping on a voyage when they’re too young to understand it is not enticing to me. I kind of want to not do whatever movie I end up doing until my son is at least 6. That way he’ll know what’s going on, he’ll be there, and it will be a memory for the rest of his life,” said Tarantino, who went on to joke that his daughter “is already such a genius, she’ll just get it.”
As for what he’s up to now, Tarantino said that he’s currently writing a play, and while he doesn’t think that it will ever grow into anything else, he teased that if it’s popular enough, he could see it potentially being his last movie.
“If you’re wondering what I’m doing right now, I’m writing a play, and it’s going to be probably the next thing I end up doing,” he said. “If it’s a fiasco I probably won’t turn it into a movie. But if it’s a smash hit? It might be my last movie.”
