Though Xbox is ending the year with three big titles, 2025 looks all the more promising for its consoles with Playground Games’ Fable and Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed. However, perhaps the most intriguing is Compulsion Games’ South of Midnight, an action-adventure title set in the Deep South.
With protagonist Hazel, players essentially become a Weaver after a hurricane, learning more about her past and meeting with venerable legends. How much gameplay does it offer, though? According to Kinda Funny’s Parris Lilly on the Gamecast, game director Jasmin Roy told him that it’s about 15 to 20 hours. However, studio head Guillaume Provost said it’s 20 to 25 hours.
Lilly went with “20” since it’s in the middle. However, he emphasized that the team is purposely not trying to “make this 40, 50, 60 hour game. They wanted something that respected gamers’ time and told a great story. You enjoy the moment, and you learn something.”
It’s unknown whether that playtime covers additional content and cutscenes, but for a single-player narrative-driven title, it sounds ideal. South of Midnight is coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC alongside launching day one on Game Pass. Check out some new gameplay in its recent documentary.
