Digital Eclipse’s Tetris Forever launches in the next few weeks and aims to offer the definitive Tetris experience with over a dozen titles from the series’ history. However, it also includes a brand new title, Tetris Time Warp, for local multiplayer and single-player where players can warp through different eras of Tetris.
The latest developer diary sees studio head Mike Mika and Tetris Time Warp’s lead designer and programmer Jason Cirillo outlining how this works. Players will start out playing modern Tetris, and upon clearing ten lines, they’ll receive a Time Warp Tetrimino. Clearing a line with this sends the player to a different era with its own mechanics and art style.
You’ll receive an objective, like clearing four lines in the time limit before returning. Multiplayer works differently, with other players sent into different eras that they can’t escape without completing the objective. They can’t attack either, making it a strong defensive strategy.
Tetris Forever launches on November 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Check out the full game list here.
