One-Punch Man Anime Season 3 Announced

After a lengthy delay, Crunchyroll has confirmed that the One-Punch Man anime will be returning for Season 3 and is currently in production. The streaming service translated an official announcement in Japanese from the show's website.

Season 2 adapting additional stories from the manga came to Japan in 2019, and later in English came to Hulu in fall 2019, wrapping in early 2020. Character designer Chikashi Kubota will be working on Season 3, but nothing else is yet known about the personnel involved or stories that will be told in the next batch of episodes. Per Crunchyroll, there's currently no information on returning cast or staff members, nor the studio involved. However, a poster for the season was released, which may offer some clues.

One Punch Man began life as a webcomic in 2009 by Japanese artist ONE, quickly gaining enough success to also become a manga and later a TV anime series. (A console and mobile game followed later.) Lin will team with Avi Arad and Ari Arad of Arad Productions (Spider-Man film series, X-Men film series) on the adaptation.

The series follows the story of Saitama, a hapless loser who discovers an incredible workout regime that makes him an invincible superhero who can literally defeat any opponent with a single punch. As One Punch Man, Saitama finds himself simultaneously bored by the lack of any legitimate challenge to his strength--and also disinterested in the Hero Association, which has recruited him to help protect Earth against all who wish to destroy it.

In June, it was announced that director Justin Lin--after abruptly exiting Fast X--will be directing a live-action adaptation of One Punch Man for Sony Pictures.
