Over 500 companies have registered for Gamescom 2022
Over 500 companies have registered to take part in this year’s Gamescom, the event’s organiser has announced.
Gamescom 2022 is set to take place from August 24-28 and will be a hybrid event held on-site in Cologne and simultaneously online.
In mid-May, Gamescom’s organisers claimed that around 250 companies had registered, but it now says that number has doubled, with “many more registrations” to follow in the lead-up to the event.
While this number obviously includes game publishers and developers, it does also take into account companies which have signed up for the event’s merchandise area.

Despite the number of companies involved, a number of major publishers have already confirmed that they won’t be attending this year’s Gamescom.
Nintendo stated last month that it wouldn’t have a presence at the Cologne show, saying: “This year, however, after careful consideration, we have decided against participating in Cologne.”
It was followed a few weeks later by Sony Interactive Entertainment, which confirmed that PlayStation wouldn’t be attending.
VGC understands that one reason there are some no-shows is that many publishers have simply stopped planning pre-release game demos since the pandemic, such as those made available at events like Gamescom, and thus would have little to show at a big public event.
Gamescome 2022 will launch with Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 23. It will then open for trade visitors, press and content creators on August 24, ahead of four days of public access for ticket holders.
