Notes app in iOS 18 to gain Voice Memos and Match support on iPhone

iOS 18 will open new doors for the iPhone in terms of utility and possibly UI design changes, which will make it the biggest update Apple has released since the beginning of the platform itself. The company's AI-driven utilities will extend beyond standard features as it is expected to implement the technology on a system level, with various apps gaining improvements. The latest information suggests that the Notes app in iOS 18 will offer Voice Memos and math functionality within the app for convenience and easier access.

iOS 18 will enhance the Notes app in a way that will bring the Voice Memo and Calculator app features to the mix

The news was shared by AppleInsider, suggesting that the Notes app in iOS 18 will be a lot more useful than its current implementation in iOS 17 as Apple plans to bring Voice Memos and additional capabilities to the platform. Sources familiar with the matter have pointed out that users will be able to record voice memos within the Notes app, eliminating the need to switch to a different app. The recorded memo can be embedded in the Notes alongside the relevant information, and to be fair, the company has removed a major chunk of operations with the new functionality.

Currently, users do have the option to paste recordings in the Notes app from the Voice Memos app, but the forthcoming addition will amalgamate the functionality for a more seamless operation. Users who use the Notes app frequently for academics will find the new feature pretty nifty and easy to access without having to go through different apps.

The report also states that the Notes app will also bring Math features to the mix, allowing users to make calculations from within the app and it appears that the company is making the app a lot simpler and feature-rich for convenience. The Notes app will show mathematical notations so users can add equations to their notes, but it remains to be seen how the company will implement it in iOS 18.

Apple seems to be conjoining the Voice Memo and Calculator app to be used inside the Notes app for extended functionality. While the report mentions the changes for iOS 18, it would make a lot more sense if the company offered the same changes in iPadOS 18 as the Notes app is widely used by students on the iPad. The report mentions that the iPad could finally get a calculator app as well, which will work alongside the Notes app, but details on the matter are scarce at this stage. It has also been reported that Apple is redesigning the calculator app with macOS 15, possibly adding more functionality while changing the general design elements, but no concrete details related to the upcoming changes are available.

Apple will announce iOS 18 at its WWDC 2024 event on June 10 alongside additional software updates, and AI is expected to be the highlight of the event. We will be covering the event extensively, so be sure to stick around.
