One similarity between Attack on Titan and Dragon Ball is the fact that the primary species of each story, namely the Eldians and the Saiyans both have the ability to transform into unstoppable forces of destruction that causes their enemies to shiver in fear. For the Eldians, it’s the transformation that results in a Wall Titan. For Saiyans, it’s the transformation that turns them into Great Apes. In both cases, choosing to deploy the Wall Titans or the Great Apes was the “nuclear option.” That is. Once they were let loose, they caused widespread death and destruction. But what if they were loosed against one another, which weapon of mass destruction would cancel out the other?
The ability of Eldians and Saiyans to transform was a key element of the backstory of both mangas. In Attack on Titan, it allowed Eldia to take control of the world and underscored the current effort by Marley to conquer Eldia. In Dragon Ball, the Great Ape transformation was similarly used as a military tactic to overwhelm opponents. A key difference between the usages was that with the Founding Titan, Walls Titans could be generated at will from any available Eldian. Conversely, Great Ape transformations were only possible by Saiyans with tails, subjected to sunlight reflected off a planetary body such as the moon.
