Sony ditches PSN requirement for some PC games

pcgamesinsider.biz

Sony Interactive Entertainment is removing the requirement for users to have a PlayStation Network account to play some of its PC titles.

In a post on PlayStation Blog, the studio business group's SVP and head of publishing Asad Qizilbash wrote that while users were previously mandated into using a PSN account, now it is an option.

They add that gamers that do opt to use a PlayStation Network account for its PC releases will receive "added benefits" such as trophies.

Players that use a PSN account with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC will receive the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit as well as the Miles Morales 2099 suit.

There's no word yet as to whether Sony is fully removing the use of a PlayStation Network account for all of its future titles, but that does appear to be the implication of this announcement.  "Game creators at PlayStation Studios will continue to work on bringing more benefits to players who sign up for a PSN account," Qizilbash wrote.
