Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake has now sold over 9 million copies since its release in March 2023, the company has announced. That means that in less than two years, the remake has entered Capcom’s top ten best-selling games ever, and potentially already outsold Resident Evil 3’s remake, Resident Evil 6, and Resident Evil 5.As noted by business development manager and Resident Evil expert Alex Aniel, this also makes the Resident Evil 4 remake “by far” the series’ fastest-selling installment to date.To reach 9 million sales, RE4 would’ve sold at least 1 million copies in its eight quarter on sale (October to December 2024).
The previous best performers in the same window were Resident Evil Village (500k) and Resident Evil 7 (400k).RE4 is by far the fastest selling RE in history.
It's not a competition at all. Previous RE games sold in their 8th quarter (LTD in parenthesis): RE4: 1m+ (9m+) Village: 500k (7.9m) RE7: 400k (6.1m) RE3: 300k (5.2m) RE2: 300k (7.8m) RE6: 100k (5.9m) https://t.co/slE4DwMycOCapcom has released three commercially successful Resident Evil remakes so far.
The Resident Evil 2 remake was released in January 2019, and as of September, it had sold 14.5 million copies, which is more than any other series entry.
