Jamie Lee Curtis Recalls Embarrassing First Meeting With Ana de Armas

Jamie Lee Curtis thought that Ana de Armas was new to Hollywood when the two first met on the set of Knives Out. De Armas, 34, was born in Cuba and got her start in Spanish-language film and TV, starting with Una rosa de Francia back in 2006. Curtis and de Armas first starred together in Knives Out, which featured a star-studded cast including Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, and Christopher Plummer.

ThoughKnives Out saw de Armas star in a sea full of larger names, the film was not de Armas’ first time acting in a big Hollywood film. Before Knives Out, she had acted in Todd Phillips’ War Dogs (2016) alongside Jonah Hill and Miles Teller, and played Joi in the high-budget sci-fi sequel Blade Runner 2049 (2017). While she was not the protagonist in either film as she was in Knives Out, she had significant roles in both features, making her well-versed in English-language Hollywood features.

All of de Armas’ filmography was apparently unbeknownst to Curtis, who recalls her embarrassing first meeting with the actress. According toElle, Curtis walked onto the set of Knives Out the first day asking de Armas questions that she would ask someone with far less experience, including “what are your dreams?” Curtis sheepishly admits that she assumed that de Armas “had just arrived” to the Hollywood scene because she was from Cuba.
