Good news – The Handmaid's Tale season 6 is on its way. The dystopian series has got a final season order, meaning will soon find out how it all ends for June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss). The last we saw of the former handmaid, she was fleeing Canada after it started to feel a bit Gilead-y. But there is plenty more that needs to be tied up in the hit show. Of course, The Handmaid's Tale season 6 is still in the early stages, but we do have quite a few details revealed already.
Moss and creator Bruce Miller have been sharing some big hints about what's next for June, as well as how the show will set up the sequel series The Testaments. We'll also be diving into theories about this below, as well as all of the latest quotes from the show's cast in our comprehensive guide to The Handmaid’s Tale season 6. Sadly, there's no official season 6 release date yet, but a new update from star Bradley Whitford makes it seem we could be waiting a while...
Hulu has not yet announced a release date for The Handmaid’s Tale season 6.
Given the fifth season only came to an end in late 2022, we’ll likely be waiting a while. In February 2023, Bradley Whitford, who plays Commander Lawrence, said they're not getting back filming until August. "I just heard we're not going back until August," he told Entertainment Tonight (opens in new tab). "I don't know what the logistical reason for that is… As you know, there's a lot of labor issues that need to be solved in Hollywood."
The first few seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale aired every year on Hulu. However, after pandemic delays during production on season 4, there have been long breaks between seasons of the show. The gap between season 4 and season 5 was around one year and three months.
