Ana de Armas has been a Bond girl and is starring alongside Captain America actor Chris Evans for the third time in the just-released Ghosted on Apple TV+. But it doesn't sound like she'll be joining the DC Universe as Wonder Woman anytime soon.
As part of a Wired Autocomplete Interview (spotted by Yahoo), de Armas was asked whether she'll be the new Wonder Woman. The actress--who was nominated for an Academy Award for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde--downplayed the rumor immediately. «Well, I feel like Gal Gadot is doing a great job, so, you know, I think she should keep doing that,» de Armas said.
The rumors regarding a new Wonder Woman have most likely started for a couple of reasons. Chief among them, DC Studios co-head James Gunn decided not to move forward with Wonder Woman 3, which had Gadot reprising her role as well as Patty Jenkins returning to direct. On top of that, Gunn's first roadmap for the new DC Universe--called Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters--doesn't include a single project about the Amazon princess.
Gadot does show up as Wonder Woman for a cameo in the Shazam sequel. But many believe that will be her final time suiting up for the role.
As for de Armas, her next blockbuster project will be starring in the John Wick spin-off Ballerina. That film will premiere June 7, 2024, with a cast that includes Anjelica Huston, the late Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves.
